Coyne on the Contender
December, 2008
Ryan "The Irish Outlaw" Coyne, got his big break in the winter of 2008 on the HBO hit series, "The Contender." Television star and former boxer, Tony Danza, and 16 Cruiserweights from around the world faught on the show to become the new champion. Mentors and veterans, Tommy Brooks and John Bray, served as trainers to the blue and gold teams as they went through the most intense training of their lives. Ryan Coyne (26, St. Louis, 9-0, 3 KOs), won both fights in the Contender tournament and faught successfully into the semifinals of the tournament. Unfortunately, Coyne was medically disqualified due to a nasty cut above the eye from a head butt in a brutal victory against Brockton brawler Tim’The Hammer’ Flamos(20-4). Coyne's success on The Contender caught the eye of legendary promoter, Don King, who signed him to a multi-year promotional contract. Coyne continues his career as a professional boxer and remains undefeated. He hopes to fight for the World Title Belt in the fall of 2011.
